Search Engine Optimization

An overview of how Search Engine Optimization works and how it is essential if you want your webpages to rank on the first three pages of Google so that you can make money online from free searches. The information that Google in particular gleans from a site about that site is pretty impressive and the algorithm is so sophisticated that webmasters can no longer get away with some of the tricks they used in the early days of the internet. Google wants its users to be able to have as good and accurate as possible an experience when they type in a search. Thus pages that most accurately reflect the words used in the search – the keywords or keyword phrases if you like – are the ones ranked the highest but always depending upon a number of other factors such as age of site – Google ranks higher older sites as it thinks they have staying power – number and quality of pages, backlinks and their quality – that is links to sites that are judged to be good sites are ranked higher than others to less esteemed sites – and up to two hundred other factors are taken into account by Google. Read this dynamic piece, take action and watch your site gobble up the page rankings!

Search engine optimization(SEO) is a way of making it easy for the search engines to find a website and to increase that website’s visibility. By optimizing a website for the search engines you increase the chances of the website appearing on the crucial first three pages when a natural, that is unpaid search, is carried out. The algorithms that the search engines use find the websites and place them in order according to a number of conditions that each search engine sets. See the section on Google Analytics in the Content part of this website.

Both offline and online SEO are used. This site has a lot of online SEO built into it in the form of page titles, headers, meta tags and keyword targeting. Offline activities in the form of gathering backlinks, particularly to influential sites, is something that is consistently taking place due to my association with SEO experts.

Whatever you do do not get into black hat SEO with such techniques as keyword stuffing, link farms or article spinning. If you do not know what these terms mean good. There are so many good techniques to use it is a complete waste of time to think you can take a short cut. Unless you’re a techie whiz you will be found out and your site will not be indexed which means that as far as internet surfers are concerned it might as well not exist.

In any case the information that Google in particular gleans from a site about that site is pretty impressive and the algorithm is so sophisticated that webmasters can no longer get away with some of the tricks they used in the early days on the internet.

To understand SEO in a simple straightforward way consider this. You enter a search such as cheapest air flights to Florida into Google. Google will begin by looking for the exact phrase you used to start off with. Next it looks for pages where the words are close together. Then it looks at pages that contain the words but not close together. It looks to see if the words are in the page title. It sees if the keywords are in the links pointing to the page. It seeks the keywords in the headings on the page. If the keywords appear a few times in the page then they mean something. All of these mini-searches by Google are given a weighting. These together go to decide where a page is ranked and therefore in what order Google will show it.

If you want to find out if your site is indexed there is an easy way to do it. Start with Google and in their search box type:

Site: yourdomain.com and press search. Don’t include the www. Immediately you will be shown how many pages Google has indexed. Now do the same for Yahoo and MSN. Just type the same thing in the same way into their search boxes and you will once again be shown how many pages these sites have indexed  for your site.

If you want to make money online then SEO is essential.
